Water is a precious resource that most of us take for granted. Water is life and we let it go right down the drain...literally! Sometimes we forget how little of the water on Earth is actually available for our use....only about 1%! Crazy huh? The average person in America uses 100-175 gallons of water every day, while the average person in a developing country uses only 2.6 gallons. Roughly one-sixth of the world's population does not have access to safe drinking water.
Here's a list of numbers and facts to help us see how much H2O we really use...
A 5 minute shower uses 10 gallons.
A morning bath uses about 40-70 gallons.
Brushing teeth with tap running uses 2 gallons per minute but if you turn off the tap it only uses .25 gallons!
Washing clothes uses about 40 gallons.
A single cup of coffee takes 55 gallons to produce. Wow!
A car washing uses 150 gallons.
About 10 gallons per day are lost to household leaks.
Simple steps such as turning off the water while teeth brushing, taking a shorter shower, and fixing leaks can save hundreds and thousand of gallons of this finite resource every year! We mustn't wait till it's gone to make a change.
