My Extra Garbage Bags
I love to fish, it relaxes me very much and I really don't care if I even catch anything. I just enjoy the tranquility of the waves crashing against my boat, the smell of the fresh salt air and of course the sun beating down on my face. I could stay out there for hours and am always saddened when it is time to come home.
My husband tells me I am the most prepared person he knows, which is funny because he is not. We equal each other out in that way. I always bring everything and yes, we always end up using it. My favorite thing to bring is extra garbage bags, because I know as soon as we get to shore and he is loading the boat, I am picking up trash everyone else left behind. I find leaving trash littered about is disrespectful to the other boaters experience and disrepectful to a planet that has done nothing but nurture us. My husband used to look at me and roll his eyes when I would do this, but now he sits patiently or helps depending on the amount. It warms my heart to know he understands why I do it.
I notice trash everywhere and everyone in my family knows that throwing trash down is a "NO,NO"!
We have a lot of beautiful rivers around here, that are enforcing rules I love. No disposable containers, no plastic, no straws, no bags, strange how the rules must be set forth before someone pays attention to the trash on our rivers.
We are all guilty of littering, either by not picking up that little paper we dropped, or the reciept we drop in the parking lot of a store. We are all guilty of letting stuff blow out the back of pick ups, and we are all guilty of turning a blind eye when we are out doing our daily errands.
So the next time you are at the park and the trash is over flowing break out your garbage bags. The next time you are out for a walk break out the garbage bags, and the next time you are walking through a store parking lot pick up that receipt someone so disrespectfully dropped.
Here are some Littering Facts:
1. The most COMMONLY littered item is the cigarette butt? Many smokers believe that cigarette butts are not litter - and decompose quickly. THIS IS WRONG. The plastic filters can take up to 15 years to decompose!!
2. 75% of Americans Admit to Littering within the last 5 years
3. Most common litter offenders- Men between 18-34 years
4. Type of Litter Percentage
Fast Food Waste (33%)
Paper (29%)
Aluminum (28%)
Glass (6%)
Plastic (2%)
Other (2%)
Maybe this year for Earth Day we spend it cleaning up, and we continue everyday after that. How beautiful would our planet be if we celebrated Earth Day everyday? I am just saying...... :)
