School Lunches

Ah, school lunches. I personally always had a love/hate relationship with the afternoon meal time. I was either ecstatic at the pizza and french fries on the menu, or I was devastated with the bologna sandwich dropped onto my metal tray by the lunch lady - who was actually quite nice. Amazing Kids: Priya Verma

This weekend I felt overwhelmed with what I thought was a hectic day. Writing, cleaning, laundry, family, the dog, lists, lists, lists, tick, tock, tick!! Water Water Everywhere, not a drop to drink?

The problem of sea level rise is usually associated with location, more specifically the dislocation of people away from coastlines, or even whole islands. But sea level rise has another dire impact: the loss of freshwater drinking supplies. The East Coast's fresh water supply in particular could be in immediate danger as a result of our rising sea levels. The… Continue

The Young Activist who Shook the World

We were so impressed by the absolute maturity of this young girl! Check out this video of Severn Cullis-Suzuki at age 12. After starting ECO (the Environmental Children's Organization) at age 9 with a group of her friends, they traveled to 1992's Rio Earth Summit, where she gave this powerful speech that struck deeply the leaders who heard it. Her passion and intelligence at such a young age are positively mind blowing.

At 23 years old, Severn remains one of… Continue

The Transformation from Husband to Father, by Dr. Jenn Berman

During pregnancy women have nine months to adjust to the idea of a baby. We put the baby’s needs before our own from the start. We take our prenatals even if we don’t usually take vitamins. We suffer through morning sickness that sometimes lasts all day. We forsake our favorite foods and drinks—sushi, Cesar salad, certain cheeses, wine, and raw chocolate chip cookie dough. We feel life moving inside of us. But for men it is more abstract. They see changes in us and our bodies but it… Continue

Vitamin D isn't really a vitamin - but just as necessary!

Did you know that one of the most important vitamins for you isn't really a vitamin? While it may be essential to our bodies, Vitamin D is actually produced by our bodies when given exposure to UVB rays. If you notice in certain tanning lotions (NOT sunscreen), they offer protection from UVA rays, which are the harmful portion of sunny rays of light. UVB rays are the 'good kind' of sunshine. Absorbtion of Vitamin D through exposure to these rays aids… Continue

Let's All Play 'Fair'

A lot of people wonder how fair trade is mixed in with the green attitude and a sustainable lifestyle. Fair Trade is essentially paying a just and fair amount for products rather than taking advantage of the economic situation of where that product is coming from. It is a system of trade where living wages and employment opportunities are offered for the goods that are produced in developing countries. Fair trade is an equal exchange program where the money you pay for a product… Continue

It's the dog days of summer, and barbecue season is in full effect. While everyone loves a good barbecue, sometimes you just don't want to have to clean that grill!
