What you will need:
Ends of old crayons in many colors
Tin can, muffin tin, or other metal mold
Stove (with parental guidance!)
Saucepan
Remove paper from crayons. Put crayons of different colors together in a muffin tin or mold, filling it one-half to three-quarters full. Place mold or tin can on the stove at a low setting. Melt the crayons slowly, so that the colors do not mix. When melted, cool or immerse mold in a sink…

Some of our favorite eco-companies donated free samples of their products to our customers over the weekend in celebration of Earth Day. It was really fun for everyone to be able to load up on goodies, that in a lot of cases they had never tried before. Hopefully we have converted them to a healthier lifestyle for good!
A very special thanks to 7th Generation, Weleda, Plan Toys, and Yoga Chips for their contribution to this very special…

Even though we know that we can all make a difference, it's still tough to see exactly what our impact is on our environment with all the little things we do in our daily lives. Whether you compost your old coffee grounds or juicer pulp, drink your water from glass, metal, or PBA-free reusable plastic bottles, or drive a hybrid vehicle; we know that there's always more to be done. We love seeing celebs with their pulling power in an eco-conscious…

There are many ways for us to help in our community every day, and Earth Day gives an excuse to do a little extra. The Environmental Protection Agency has events and ideas listed on their website (
http://www.epa.gov/earthday/share.html). You can find activities in your area to take part in, learn about the history of Earth Day and it's founder, Gaylord Nelson. (…

Here at The Little Seed we love all of the new companies that are helping to make it easier for us to live Green. Its so inspiring to see the new ways in which people are using technology to bring people together to
share and/ or
reuse their stuff, thereby reducing the need to
buy more stuff that you may only use once, or may need for a limited amount of time. We reported on a company last year called
www.handmedowns.com that…

The Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, CA is a great summer vacation destination for learning and imagination. They're joining in for Earth Day, and making it a whole week! We love the great big cube outside the center that creates solar energy using solar panels, and all of their wonderful activities for kids! If you have time to make it out there this month, we strongly suggest it. As one of the only places kids can go and learn hands on science…

What a fabulously eco-wonderful idea! Sun Chips has now begun to use entirely biodegradable, compostable packaging to bag their product! Although we don't sell food at the Little Seed, we still think this major breakthrough in the prepackaged biz is great news for other eco-friendly companies. We support any company that is doing right by the planet, just as we are trying to do. It only takes the first leader to make all the other dominoes start…

We see them for sale at the checkout counter, and we always seem to forget to bring them; reusable shopping bags. It's jaw-dropping to think of how many plastic bags are used, and go unrecycled as a result of all our consumer intake. Every trip to the grocery store, every time you pick up your prescription, or when you take your food to go from a restaurant, it's another plastic bag used.
We were quite amazed to read the figures about how…

One of the most wonderful parts of Spring is of course the flowers! Our kids love to pick them, and we adults could definitely use a moment to stop and smell them. We can make one of these moments last by putting our beautiful hand-picked flowers into a pressed flower keepsake. Some of you may have a flower press of your own. Spring is the perfect time to show your children how to use it! If not, books are commonly used and just as effective. Try…
