The Little Seed

tree hugging with style

When Claire was little, she was very hyper, and often times we would have "time outs" of sitting and reading or doing something quietly to calm her down for a bit. It was good for her to calm and relax once in awhile.

Now that she is 10 and starting to exhibit the behavior of a pre-teen (ie sleeping in, talking on the phone with her friends, and sitting around playing games or emailing and the like) i need to constantly get her up and moving... sometimes this is almost a bigger task than a "time out" to calm down when she was little.

Now that the weather is breaking, i want to go outside and hike and see nature - just have fun. Often times i am met with "ah... do i have to go?" instead of a "YES! let's go!" kind of an attitude. What happens to a child during this age when they go from a Park being the highlight of excitement to it being almost a torture to have to go?

Does anyone else have a "pre-teen" age child who use to be over active and now is almost under active? She would rather sit inside and read a thousand books or talk on the phone than go to the park. Which i think reading is great, but i wonder if this is a normal part of the pre-teen stages or if i need to keep on her to stay more active in life.

i should note that she is not lazy by any means! she is in theatre, dance, and is often singing and dancing around her room! i think i am more worried that she is losing her childhood spirit, which i know is a normal stage... but i thought i would still have a few more years before i had to deal with the full teenage mode!

*peace*
