As a forever recovering anorexic, i often wonder if i could be doing more in my own diet to be healthier. But i sometimes avoid being too direct with my child's eating habits out of a fear of over-doing the advice on her needing to stay at a healthy weight in life by exercising, eating the right foods, and not over doing it with the junk food. I often let her pick her own foods when going out to eat and when shopping at the store. Recently i've started to notice that my 10 year old daughter loves chocolate and random junk food! It isn't something that just sneaks up on you - if you buy it at the store, they will eat it. She is no where near over weight or unhealthy, but in my wanting her to never be afraid of food by letting her pick junk food at the store and at restaurants - i might have avoided the major issue of making sure to keep it more balanced at all times by her personal choices.
Although she most often picks the right foods to eat and is a pretty good eater, i still worry about the effects that junk food has on a growing child's diet and nutrition. And i wonder if i am the only parent out there worried about the eating choices our kids make now catching up with them as they get older.
i recently watched this video by TED:
Jamie Oliver discusses better eating habits - this video got me thinking about how i am doing as a parent and watching what goes into my child's body.
I wanted to share this video and get a discussion going about how each of us manage to get our kids to develop better eating habits in our hectic everyday life.
